Lunchtime at the Atkinson

On the first Monday of the month Orchestra dell’Arte and guests present a short lunchtime concert at The Atkinson on Lord Street, Southport – cake and coffee served from 12.30pm music commences at 1.00pm. So why not take a short break for some easy listening over a cup of tea or coffee?

  • Music for guitar

Eleanor Kelly presents a programme of works from around Latin America, including vibrant rhythmic dances to beautiful melancholic melodies through the rich classical guitar repertoire. Works by Chiquinha Gonzaga, Claudia Montero, and Violeta Parra, and more.

5th February 2024

  • Spring in the Air

Beethoven’s Spring Sonata, published in 1801 is amongst the most melodic of his compositions conveying his love of the countryside and the natural world.

The programme also includes the Sonatina by Dvorak, written in 1893 at the end of his three year sojourn in the United States.

  • The Schubert Octet in F major. D803

The Octet boasts the largest scale for any chamber work by Schubert. Opportunities to hear a live performance are rare. It is written for clarinet, bassoon, horn, 2 violins, viola, cello and double bass, and is in 6 movements.

  • Calderbank Duo

Duets for violin and viola are not often performed. Today is a great opportunity to explore some of the repertoire with Pam and Allison.

5th August 2024

  • Carl Frühling Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano. Op 40

Our main work today is a lovely Romantic-era Trio, recently championed by Stephen Isserlis. Hopefully someone will discover more of Fruhling’s charming compositions before too long.
