The Manager of the Orchestra is clarinettist and saxophonist, Valerie Warr, whose musical career began at the age of five thanks to Miss Burrow’s Ballet School. Here the ability to identify and conduct 2, 3 and 4 beats to a bar was considered essential groundwork as was the recognition of compound times and rhythms and the ability to relate these to dance. As a teenager Valerie’s obsession for the operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan did not really enhance her street cred amongst peers but the world of music making and entertainment was about to become a lifelong passion and commitment.
In September 2015 Valerie was elected to Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts for her tireless efforts in this role and as Director of the Heswall Arts Festival. read more
