Soloist Exchange Scheme

Liverpool Orchestra scores with UNESCO Link to Europe

The Orchestra dell’Arte, in conjunction with Liverpool City Council and Liverpool Vision, has forged an enviable link in Europe with a ground-breaking musical exchange scheme.

In 2004 UNESCO inaugurated the Creative Cities programme as an initiative to unite cities in otherwise disparate countries. In a further development of the programme in 2015, ten more cities were recognised by the organisation as Cities of Music.  As well as Liverpool, cities feature from as far afield as Australia, Poland, Columbia and Korea.

In May 2017, the first of a series of exchange concerts with the city of Bologna took place.

Rattle sacha-crop2Following a much-acclaimed concert last season in which the clarinettist Sacha Rattle performed Weber’s second clarinet concerto, Sacha and his wife, pianist Zeynep Özsuca, flew off to Bologna in May to play  a duo concert of music by Schumann, Brahms and Saint-Saëns.

ODA Artistic Director, Edward Peak says … “The European link, thanks to the UNESCO connection, will open up so many new possibilities.  This is a hugely exciting time for us and for Liverpool…”
