Lunchtime at the Atkinson

On the first Monday of the month Orchestra dell’Arte and guests present a short lunchtime concert at The Atkinson on Lord Street, Southport – cake and coffee served from 12.30pm music commences at 1.00pm. So why not take a short break for some easy listening over a cup of tea or coffee?

 

 

3rd June 2024

  • The Schubert Octet in F major. D803

The Octet boasts the largest scale for any chamber work by Schubert. Opportunities to hear a live performance are rare. It is written for clarinet, bassoon, horn, 2 violins, viola, cello and double bass, and is in 6 movements.

8th July 2024

  • Calderbank Duo

Duets for violin and viola are not often performed. Today is a great opportunity to explore some of the repertoire with Pam and Allison.

5th August 2024

  • Carl Frühling Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano. Op 40

Our main work today is a lovely Romantic-era Trio, recently championed by Stephen Isserlis. Hopefully someone will discover more of Fruhling’s charming compositions before too long.

2nd September 2024

  • The Return of Double Tootin’ Flutes

Pianist Tom Kimmance will suffer at the behest of LFC supporters Jeff and Pete, who will no doubt bring jokes and fun to some great music for Flutes.

7th October 2024

  • Rise up and Reach the Stars

The fabulous voice of mezzo-soprano Katherine Rudge, with her accompanist Duncan Glenday, will entrance you with Songs of Love and Hope – music by composers including Edward Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Liza Lehmann and Eric Coates.

4th November 2024

  • Piano Quartets by Mozart and Turina

The gorgeous Mozart in G minor, and Turina in A minor will be played by Pip Clarke, Cathy Perkins, Cathie Bunting and John Gough

2nd December 2024

  • The Beethoven Septet

To complete Cake & Classical 2024 Dell’Arte Soloists bring you the famous Septet for wind and strings by Beethoven.
